Deleted Messages and subsequent Follow-ups

Can you clarify that, if I manually delete the start message of a topic and any follow-up message, any further follow-ups will be automatically deleted when I restart Usenapp? Thanks.

Hi Alan,

If you delete a thread, all the messages in this thread will also be deleted.
But the next follow-up message will start a new thread.

If you don't want that to happen then you can create a rule, based on the subject.
I believe this is called a kill-thread function by other news-readers.

I personally don't like this, because if someone starts a new thread with the same subject then this one is also thrashed.

Besides, deleting an unwanted thread manually is a simple task.

So I've decided not to build in a kill-thread function.

There might be cases it would be good to block (mark as read or delete) messages based on if they reference another (presumably same thread, but not based on name). I would not use this often, but there are times it might be good. Certainly NOT a deal breaker to not have such a feature!

Some news-readers truncate the references to only the last few ids, so it's not a good base to kill a thread on.

Hi André - what seems to be happening is I delete all the original and followups from a topic but if further follow ups are made, I am not see them in Usenapp. However in Hogwasher if I delete the original post and followups , I can see any subsequent followups. Personally I prefer to see these followups and have the option to create a new rule if I do not wish to see any more. A kill file function would be useful in these circumstances.

That should not be happening, but I have found the reason and has been fixed in the upcoming release (v0.68).
In the release you are using the deleted threads are marked as deleted, but not actually deleted until a database optimisation occurred. Until that moment all follow-ups are invisible.

In the mean time a workaround is to optimise the database manually after you have deleted a bunch of threads:
