Search body of posts

I know search is not implemented yet, but do you have an idea of what it will look like? I know for me having "smart folders" or "saved searches" is a big benefit... pretty much where you can do a search and then save it (presumably to go into the "Search" tab on the left.

If you do not know yet that is fine... just curious as to plans.

With search you will be able to search usenet for files and messages, using sources like MegaSearch, SABNzb sites, Spotweb sites and all other kind of searchable indexes.

It has no relation to do the articles/headers part in Usenapp.

And yes, there will be a search history (which can be bookmarked).

It's very advanced.

I'm currently working on first steps of the search feature and have put development of the articles/headers section aside. I'll continue that part later.

You can do a crude search of the message body using the Edit -> Find menu, but you probably know this!

Right. I am not expecting that to be included any time soon... still other things which are far more important. But for me to be really happy with a news reader I want it to be able to show me all the posts with, say, my Usenet name or some other arbitrary word. I often want to look for an old (even if recent) post and being able to do so is a HUGE bonus. Even better if it can handle a large database so I can find older posts with that keyword (assuming, of course, I have been a part of the group over that time).

Sometimes I want it set so the posts are just highlighted (I can see them more in context) but it is fine if it is a separate search. Preferably savable... but if not, esp. in a 1.0 product, I would be fine with it.

Searching the downloaded message bodies will definitely come inside the Articles section.

I was just saying that the search feature (under the search button at the far left in the dark column) is something completely different and in no relation to the Articles section.

I am working on the search feature now and searching the bodies and headers for text is possible when talking about cached messages. With cached I mean the messages that has been read (not marked as read but read as downloaded)

Is that what you are looking for?

Are there controls for how long to cache locally? I can't see any, but I'm sure text users will want to manage the size of their archive - often to a larger message count/date range than you'd expect.

You can clear the cache entirely if you want for each or all subscriptions.

I think what Jaimie meant is not to clear the whole cache manually but to have it cleared automatically after X days.
That´s how I would like it too.

Yes, exactly - and not only that but text people might want to set it to a high number rather than a low number. Because we're packrats.

Advanced search (and much more) has been added to the upcoming release v0.68.
Searching is very fast, but required a complete new database setup.

Unfortunately, this means that the current databases will be deleted and you need to setup the subscriptions once again. Sorry for that, but a lot has been changed and a simple database conversion is not possible.

Great to hear about search. And the loss of old databases and the like is to be expected at this point in development. You are doing an amazing job and it is very much appreciated.
