Multi-part image file/post

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature not added yet...

When using Hogwasher (and previously Unison), either app was able to gather and combine all split posts into one so that the image was complete. Usenapp does not do this, so when clicking on the first post, I receive most of the image. When clicking on the 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, etc.) post, I get random ASCII characters (i.e. garbage text).

For example, in (cough) adult groups, posts with files show as:

FILENAME (1/2)
FILENAME (2/2)
FILENAME 2 (1/3)
FILENAME 2 (2/3)
FILENAME 2 (2/3)

When clicking on FILENAME (1/2), I can see most of the image. Clicking on FILENAME (1/2), random text is displayed. Same goes with FILENAME 2(1/2), I get most of the image but clicking FILENAME 2 (2/3) and FILENAME 2 (3/3) I see random/garbage text.

Most of the files have been correctly combined, but some files are posted with a "strange" subject (which includes the file name) and could not be identified as belonging to each other.

If you give me an example then I will have a look at it.

But for binaries you better can use SuperSearch/MegaSearch.
Just type the newsgroup name (or a part of it) in the newsgroup search field and all files from that newsgroup will be listed. And combined as expected.

Sorry, I failed to post the example correctly.

The image posts are not named FILENAME but the model's name of the picture/image. I should have said it:

Pretty Lady (v25) (1/2)
Pretty Lady (v25) (2/2)
Pretty Lady 2 (v3) (1/3)
Pretty Lady 2 (v3) (2/3)
Pretty Lady 2 (v3) (3/3)

I will give you example later today (have to go to work!).

OK, sorry for the delay in replying.

Some examples....

This is how I see them.

I click on one of the posts labeled "1/2" and the image loads. If you see the bottom of the picture, it is not complete.

I then click on the next post labeled "2/2" and I receive garbage text.

If you click on both of them and then Download and Launch, the complete image should appear. Also if you are using MegaSearch use the Beta Merge Feature for any of the 1 of 2, 2 of 2, and so on files.

I have just tested the newsgroup here, but all files are showing fine and complete.
What happens if you reset the newsgroup and fetch the headers again?

What setting(s) do you have so that it looks like yours?

That's weird. Have you configured a rule that can cause this?

No rules are set. I have deleted the newsgroup and added it back. It still shows like my original posted picture(s).

Which newsserver (provider) are you using?
Then I can run some tests with them.

I am using NewsDemon as my Usenet provider, using us.newsdemon.com to connect.

Also, I have been using Hogwasher as my newsreader for many years ever since Panic, Inc. decided to stop developing Unison. Hogwasher has no problem with the issue I'm having with Usenapp.

NewsDemon, that doesn't surprise me. Since they shut down from Omnicron late 2020, it's been a terrible mess there.

I'll take a look at why merging headers coming from NewsDemon doesn't work properly.

I am glad to hear you're on it. 😃

I've used NewsDemon for over 10 years. It was problematic since they moved to another provider (UsenetExpress). I had to delete and/or empty my caches multiple times until I was able to properly load my subscribed newsgroups (about 50). I finally caught-up with all posts within Hogwasher.

So far this issue is what's keeping me from using Usenapp full-time. Other than that, Usenapp is a solid app.

Here is the result.
NewsDemon is screwing up things again.

As you can see below, NewsDemon is displaying an incorrect article size.
Usenapp uses this information to determine whether it is a file or a text message.

The correct file size for this article is 473246 bytes, but NewsDemon shows 858 bytes.

I will see if I can build a solution for this in Usenaap.

I've build a solution for this in Usenapp v1.04, which will be released next week.

Of course, I should have known that. When I download picture sets in Hogwasher, the progress bar shows a smaller megabyte total. I am still able to see and download sets in Hogwasher.

I'm looking forward to version 1.04 😃
