Kill thread/kill subthread

I can, pretty much at the touch of a button, set up a filter to delete posts by sender. I use this extensively to suppress trolls. I'm sure many others do.

But does this also suppress follow-up posts from those misguided people who seem unable to resist answering the posts? I'd really like a definitive answer to this.

Furthermore, if it does not, then I would very much appreciate a filter that does. In fact I would like to be able to kill either a complete thread by poster or subject or a subthread from a selected post.

Any chance of this? It would save me an awful lot of work dealing with trolls...

You are right about this. The only way to kill a thread is by killing it from the context menu.
However, you can create a rule based on the subject. Maybe that is a solution in the mean time.

I will see if it is possible to add the kill thread to the rules.

Andre I often create rules based on subject when all else fails. They work OK but I have to remember to delete them after a while since the number of rules soon builds up! Unfortunately some threads restart after a long period of non activity and I have to re-create the rule but that’s life!!!

Killing a thread based on a poster rule is a bit tricky as this should only be done if the poster is the OP of the thread. Determining if the poster is the thread starter is only possible by checking the number of references of the posting. If this is somehow altered by the poster, the thread will be falsely killed.

Expiration dates on Rules might be quite useful, the default being Never.

Since you can sort rules by "last used" date, I find that more useful than an absolute expiry. Every now again check through and delete anything that hasn't triggered in a month or six.
