I'd like to be able to read posts using only the keyboard. Currently, if the scroll bar appears in the article window, it is necessary to use the mouse to scroll down (unless I've missed something.) Ideally a press of the Space Bar would automatically scroll down and, when the end of the article was reached, the next press of the Space Bar would open the next article. So one could read all posts in a newsgroup using only the Space Bar (or the Down arrow or the "0" key on the number pad or a user-defined key.)

I've made a small change in the next update that will allow you to select the prev/next article in a thread using the up/down key. However, this function recycles within the same thread and does not jumps to a next thread.

Note that the thread panel at the left needs to be active/focused to make the above work.
If the thread panel has lost its focus (by selecting anything else other than the panel) then you'll need to select the panel again to make the keys work.

Thanks Andre. Isn't that how it works now (0.58.3 (115))? I can navigate using the Right arrow to expand a thread and the Down arrow to skip to next article. Unison is the newsreader I have been using and in that the Spacebar allows me to scroll through an article to the end, then jump to next article in thread and, when the last article in the thread is read, it jumps to the next thread. Very handy!

In the current release that you use, the right and left cursor key will expand or collapse the thread. If the thread is expanded the up and down keys selects the previous/next article. If the thread is collapsed the up/down key selects the previous/next thread. If the last article is selected in an expanded thread then the down key will select the next thread. I don't see any difference in what you are asking for.

Is it that you want the same functionality under the space bar instead of the arrow down key?

Oh.. I believe I understand it now.
You want to scroll the message itself using the spacebar.

There is a difference between Unison and Usenapp.
Unison stack all the articles from a thread into a single view.
Usenapp isn't and never will be. So I don't think the functionality you are asking for will have any benefits, does it?

The behaviour I wish for is as follows:

SPACEBAR
Open first unread article in thread
SPACEBAR
Scroll through article until end of article is reached
SPACEBAR
Open next article in thread
And so on. Then, when end of last article in thread is reached
SPACEBAR
Open next unread thread

But if it can't be done, too bad. Using the arrow keys is a bit clumsier and will take some getting used to.

This Usenapp thing is coming together beautifully. I'm using it full time now. As someone who feels like he has lost something every time he reaches for the mouse, may I ask for a few Mac-Like shortcuts like tabbing round subscription, article and message panes. And arrow or tabbing and shift tabbing round selection sheets with the familiar solid and outline highlights? And a pony? Onna Stick?

Just to say that I too would love to see keyboard shortcuts. Those proposed in the other thread or other ones if those cannot be implemented. Enjoying the application so far!

cmd-R works differently from clicking the reply icon:
I want to reply to a minithread with 2 posts.
I mark the text that I want to quote in the second post.
When I click the reply icon, it works as expected.
When I press cmd-R the entire text from the first post of the thread is quoted instead of the marked text of the second post.
