Window layering problem

There is the main window of the app. Then there are compose/reply windows. And there's the Pros window - more particularly the Updates section.

1) I have the main window with a compose window on top of it. I then switch to another space, and when I get back to the Usenapp space, the Compose window is now underneath the Main window. This is a bit annoying if some time elapsed in switching back and forth. I'll wonder what happened and assume I submitted the post. Then two days later I find the unsubmitted post again.

2) I have the main window with the Prefs window on top of it. I go to the Updates section and click on Check for Updates. Now, this works OK if there are no updates (the message is on top, therefore visible), but IME if there is and update then nothing appears to happen as the Download Now window is underneath everything. Is this still the case?

I hadn't noticed that before, but you're right. I'll fix this.

I've played a bit with spaces and Usenapp, but as far as I can see Usenapp behaves no differently from other programs.

When a compose window is opened and you click on the Usenapp icon in the dock, the Usenapp main window becomes active and comes up and the compose window disappears behind the main window. Again this is no different from other programs and is a typical Mac behavior.

This can be solved by placing the compose window as a modal window. The disadvantage of this is that the compose window is then the only active window in Usenapp and no other window can be activated or opened.

Unless I overlook something, I don't think much can be done about this.

The preferences window was such a modal window as described above, so that the 'Update available' window was not accessible.

I changed this preferences window to a 'normal' window and solved the 'Update available' problem.

Andre At the moment, I've been incorporating the pane that displays articles in the main window. I thought there was a way to have that in a separate window but I can't find that setting just now. If the article display were in a separate window, then the one main window wouldn't be so big thus reducing the chance of some window going missing. Perhaps that's the way out of this.

You can open the articles in an external window by double clicking on the article or by choosing "Open in Window" from the context menu.

Andre Yes. But the double-click forces the article portion of the window to open (unless I have the separate article window open and configured a particular way). And it keeps coming back. Is there a way to say that I don't want the article part of the main window to open until I change that config?

I've made some changes to v0.95.2 that will be released later today.

When you open an article in a separate window, the article section in the main window will collapse and keep collapsed until you close the separate window again.

I think that is what you wanted?
